Career [edit]
1997–2003: Career beginnings [edit]
Anne Curtis was born in Wangaratta, Australia. Annually, her family visited the Philippines to see her mothers relatives. In 1997, her visit became permanent when she was discovered while eating in a fast-food restaurant, acquiring her first modelling job in the Philippines. Within a week or so, Curtis had bagged her first commercial. Because of this, she and her father decided to relocate to the Philippines. She completed her 7th grade studies at the Colegio de Sta. Rosa, Makati. Because she was not able to speak Filipino fluently, she had to partake special Filipino classes to increase her fluency.[3] Her first movie was ‘Magic Kingdom’, where she played a princess. After this, she appeared in several supporting roles in GMA Network’s shows. Some of the shows were T.G.I.S., Ikaw Na Sana and the long-running situational comedy series Beh Bote Nga[4]
2004–2007: Network transfer and various lead roles [edit]
In 2004, Curtis moved to the rival network of GMA Network, ABS-CBN. The management of ABS-CBN gave her a more mature role, when she starred in Hiram.[3] Her co-stars in the series were Kris Aquino, Dina Bonnevie, John Estrada, Heart Evangelista and Geoff Eigenmann.[5] In 2005, she got her first title role, via the television version of Kampanerang Kuba. The film version of Kampanerang Kuba was starred by star-of-all-season, Vilma Santos.[6] Also in 2005, she hosted the reality show Qpids with her best friend, Luis Manzano.[7] In 2006, she got her first movie under Star Cinema, All About Love. It was a three-part movie and also starred some of the ABS-CBN’s biggest stars, John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Luis Manzano, Angelica Panganiban and Jason Abalos. Also in 2006, she played a nurse and a psycho killer in Star Cinema and Viva Films‘ Wag Kang Lilingon. Kristine Hermosa also starred in the film.[8] In that same year, she starred in the critically acclaimed television drama series, Maging Sino Ka Man, wherein she was paired with her ex-boyfriend, Sam Milby. In this series she played the role of Celine, she got the chance to work with veteran actor Christopher De Leon.[9] Her role in the series gave her a best actress nomination in the 21st PMPC Star Awards for Television.[10] She later reprised her role in the second installation of the series, Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik.[11] In 2007, she starred in the blockbuster comedy-film, Ang Cute Ng Ina Mo, wherein she played the daughter of the comedy-queen, Ai Ai de las Alas.[12]
2008–2010: Continuous television and film projects [edit]
In 2008, Curtis starred in the film, When Love Begins, wherein she was paired with award-winning actor, Aga Muhlach.[13] Later in that same year, she starred in the award-winning period film, Baler. This was her first on-screen team-up with Jericho Rosales.[14] She won the Best Actress Award from the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival. This marked as Curtis’ first acting award, and was very thankful for it.[15] She was also nominated in the 25th PMPC Star Awards for Movies as Film Actress of the Year and in the 11th Gawad Pasado Awards as Pinakapasadong Aktres.[16][17] Also in 2008, she got her second title role, Dyosa (Goddess). Curtis admitted that she was very nervous about her role and she picked that being a mermaid is the hardest. She had three leading men in the series, which are Sam Milby, Luis Manzano and Zanjoe Marudo.[18] After this, she was dubbed as the “Dyosa” of Philippine Showbiz.[19] In 2009, she was one of the main hosts of the highly popular morning variety show, Showtime alongside Vhong Navarro, Kim Atienza, Vice Ganda and many more.[20] In 2009, she played the role of Candice in the television series, The Wedding. Her leading men were Zanjoe Marudo and Derek Ramsay.[21] In 2010, she starred in the film Babe, I Love You. The movie marked her first big-screen team-up with ex-boyfriend, Sam Milby.[22] Her second movie for 2010 was In Your Eyes. Her co-stars include Claudine Barretto and her ex-boyfriend, Richard Gutierez.[23] Her role in this film earned her a Best Supporting Actress Award from the 29th Luna Awards and a Movie Actress of the Year Nominee from the 27th PMPC Star Awards for Movies.[24][25]
2011: No Other Woman and Career expansion via Annebisyosa [edit]
In 2011, Curtis starred in the Philippine adaptation of the Koreanovela Green Rose. The series featured her reunion with Jericho Rosales.[26] In the same year, Curtis starred in the romantic-comedy film, Who’s That Girl?. It served as her reunion movie with Luis Manzano.[27] On September 23, 2011, Curtis launched her debut album, Annebisyosa, under Viva Records. She asked for her bosses to release her album, as it is one of her dreams.[28] She described her album as “super fun” and “not serious.” She also stated that people should listen at their own risk.[29] On October 16, 2011, with less than a month of release, the album reached the gold status, as it sold 10,000 copies. Curtis cried while receiving the gold record award.[30] On December 11, 2011, the album reached the Platinum status.[31] In 2011, she played the role of Kara Zalderiaga in the phenomenal box-office hit, No Other Woman, which also stars Derek Ramsay and Cristine Reyes.[32] The film earned Php 275 Million, making it the highest grossing Filipino film, until it was beaten by The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin.[33] Her role in the film lead her and co-star Cristine Reyes to be recognized as the Box Office Queens at the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Foundation’s 43rd Box-Office Entertainment award.[34] She also won as the Pinakapasadong Aktres (Best Actress) at the 14th Gawad Pasado Awards.[35] In the 28th PMPC Star Awards for Movies, she was nominated as Movie Actress of the Year.[36]
2012: Annebisyosa: No Other Concert World Tour [edit]
In December 2011, Curtis’ conference for her upcoming concert, Annebisyosa No Other Concert World Tour was held. She was to perform at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum on January 28, 2012. The concert was also a celebration for her 15th year in show business.[37] Her guests at her first major solo concert were her sister Jasmine Curtis,[38] her best friend Luis Manzano,[39] her co-hosts in Showtime, Vhong Navarro and Vice Ganda,[39] rock stars Rico Blanco and Ira Cruz,[40] her ex-boyfriend Sam Milby,[40] her No Other Woman co-stars, Derek Ramsay and Cristine Reyes,[41] and the Popstar Princess Sarah Geronimo.[41] Some of the celebrities that went to watch her first major solo concert were Solenn Heussaff, Georgina Wilson, Karylle,[39] Kris Aquino,[42] KC Concepcion, Richard Gutierrez, Jessy Mendiola and Jhong Hilario.[41] After her major solo concert, several provincial concerts were held, the first stop of the concert series was held on March 23, 2012 in Waterfront Hotel, Cebu and the second one was held on May 5, 2012 in Atrium, Limketkai Center, Cagayan De Oro City.[43]

Biography [edit]
Monica Pauline Gil was born in Manila to Dino and Julie Gil. She is of Filipino, Spanish and German descent. Being born to a musically-inclined family, her father a piano player and her mom a church choir member, she was already singing and doing voiceovers for commercials as early as four years old. She graduated from Shekinah Christian Training Center in March 2005 as batch valedictorian. In 2009, she graduated from Ateneo de Manila University, majoring in English literature.[citation needed] Her sister is Dani Gil, also plays the piano and sings.
Discovery and early career [edit]
She was singing in a church when an agent spotted her in 2004. Shortly after, came a whirlwind of endorsements as she crooned her way into her first commercial ad for Coca-Cola in 2005.[citation needed]
Gil released her first self-titled album, Nikki Gil, in 2005 under EMI Philippines with “Sakayan ng Jeep” as the carrier single. It was later repackaged in 2006 and released with the addition of a graduation song titled “Glowing Inside”. In July 2006, EMI Philippines and Walt Disney Records introduced her, with other Asian artists Vince Chong of Malaysia and Alicia Pan of Singapore, to sing and to star in the music video of Disney Channel’s original movie High School Musical’s theme song, “Breaking Free”. Gil sang “Gotta Go My Own Way”, which also climbed the charts and boosted High School Musical’s status to double platinum record.[citation needed]
In 2008, Gil released her second music album, Hear My Heart, with “Hear My Heart” as the carrier single, a song she co-wrote with her younger sister Dani. She later finished a project again for Disney in Hong Kong when she recorded a music video for the pop version of “It’s a Small World After All”. She was then asked in 2008 to perform the Tagalog version of “It’s A Small World” at the grand opening of It’s a Small World in Hong Kong Disneyland.[citation needed]
In 2010, Gil released her third music album, Somebody to Love, with “Somebody to Love” as the carrier single, a song written by her younger sister Dani. Gil played the character of Elle Woods in the Manila production of the musical Legally Blonde which is based on the 2001 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture Legally Blonde and the novel by Amanda Brown.
Acting career and TV hosting [edit]
In 2005, Gil was given a VJ stint for ABS-CBN’s music channel subsidiary, MYX. She was also picked to host the now-defunct talk show MRS on ABS-CBN and morning show Breakfast on ANC. She later would join the cast of the weekly variety show ASAP Mania. In 2006, she was joined by Toni Gonzaga and Bianca Gonzalez as host for the season 1 of Pinoy Dream Academy, a singing reality show from Endemol. In 2007, she became part of an anime-inspired fantasy series “Rounin” and as an extended cast for the drama series “Pangarap na Bituin”. In 2008, she was again chosen to be the host for the season 2 of Pinoy Dream Academy with Toni Gonzaga and Billy Crawford. In 2009, she appeared in “Pieta”, an afternoon teleserye with Ryan Agoncillo, and is currently appearing in the teleserye “Florinda” with Maricel Soriano. Nikki Gil is one of the mainstay on ABS-CBN with ASAP XV In 2010, she started hosting E-Live along with Luis Manzano and Ogie Diaz. She also did a fair share of hosting occasionally on Showtime replacing Anne Curtis.
In 2007, Gil did her first movie appearance by doing a cameo role as John Lloyd Cruz’s best friend for One More Chance. In 2009, she appeared along with Bea Alonzo, Sam Milby, Derek Ramsay for a Star Cinema movie entitled And I Love You So. BlackBerry Bold
The BlackBerry Bold is a line of smartphones developed by BlackBerry. The family was launched in 2008 with the 9000 Model. In 2009 the form factor was shrunk with the 9700 and the Tour 9630. In 2010 BlackBerry released the 9650 and 9780 refresh with OS 6. In 2011 came the 9788 and 9790 along with the current flagship – the 9900/9930 series. The 9900/9930 and 9790 are touchscreen smartphones, released in August and November 2011.
The Bold family is known for its distinctive form factor; efficient, finger-friendly QWERTY keyboard, typical BlackBerry messaging capabilities with a distinctive, more premium keyboard than the Curve series. The Bold series is usually more expensive and has more premium materials (e.g. leather, soft touch, carbon fiber, metal) unlike the curve (plastic, glossy), and has much better specs. There are two basic form factors with the Bold line, the original larger size on the 9000 and 9900 Series and the “baby bold” form factor the other models have.

Early series [edit]
BlackBerry Bold 9700 [edit]
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 (codenamed “Onyx”) is a high-end mobile phone data device (smartphone) developed by BlackBerry. While many things including form factor are similar between the two models, here are the difference in the 9700’s specifications as follows:[1]
- Available December 18, 2009
- Wi-Fi calling supported UMA (Carrier dependent)
- Browser – HTML browsing, View Movies/Clips from websites built for mobile streaming, RSS feed support
- Voice Dialling
All the familiar pre-loaded BlackBerry applications are available on the Bold 9700, including but not limited to: WordToGo, PowerPointToGo, BrickBreaker and WordMole. The Bold 9700 also offers BlackBerry Messenger 4.7 but is upgradable to 7.1 in the BlackBerry App World. By upgrading the OS to version 6.0, a user also automatically upgrades to higher versions of applications.
BlackBerry Bold 9650 [edit]
| Slogan | Love to be Bold.[2] |
|---|---|
| Availability by country | Sprint Nextel: May 23, 2010[3] Verizon Wireless: June 3, 2010 (Online) June 10, 2010 (Retail Stores)[4] |
The BlackBerry Bold 9650 is part of the 9600 device series which takes design cues from both its predecessor, the BlackBerry Tour 9630, as well as its GSM variant, the BlackBerry Bold 9700 & the BlackBerry Bold 9780. Changes from the Tour include built-in Wi-Fi, 512MB of onboard storage, and an optical trackpad instead of the trackball. It utilizes a 528 MHz processor, and has a 3.4 MP camera available as an option. The major difference between the 9700/9780 vs the 9650 is that the 9650 is the World Phone Edition that can use CDMA & GSM networks globally; the 9700/9780 only runs on GSM networks.Sprint Nextel announced that they would be the launch carrier for the Bold 9650 shortly after the device was introduced, releasing the phone on May 23, 2010. Verizon Wireless followed closely, releasing the phone exclusively online on June 3, 2010, followed by its retail stores on June 10, 2010. It was released in Canada the week of April 27, 2010.[5]
BlackBerry Bold 9780 Series [edit]
The BlackBerry Bold 9780 is a high-end mobile phone data device (smartphone) developed by BlackBerry. Released globally in November 2010.[6] On September 7, 2011 China Mobile and BlackBerry announced a variant known as the Bold 9788. The 9788 variant is identical to the 9700 except that the 9788 uses a Chinese 3G standard known as TD-SCDMA.
The Bold 9780 shares the same form factor as the 9700, and the only notable differences are an improved camera (3.2 MP vs. 5.0 MP) and double the onboard memory of the 9700 (256 MB vs. 512 MB). Both devices are OS 6.0 capable, with the 9780 having OS 6 already installed plus the chrome around the old bold has disappeared.
BlackBerry 7 series [edit]
On August 3, 2011[7] BlackBerry announced their seventh major release of BlackBerry OS. It included several major changes such as universal voice search, support for HTML 5, Liquid Graphics and Near field communication. It also has many optimization which improves web and gaming experiences as well as social network integration as well as some layout changes with some new icons. BlackBerry OS 7 comes bundled with the premium version of Documents To Go. On January 9, 2012[8] BlackBerry announced BlackBerry OS 7.1 which allows Wi-Fi Tethering, BlackBerry Tag and UMA calling.
BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 [edit]
The BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 (codenamed internally as “Dakota/Montana”, also known as Bold Touch) is the newest BlackBerry and is part of the 9000 device series. Introduced in August 2011, it is the first of the Bold line to provide a touchscreen. It marks a return to the form factor of the original 9000 and its popular wide-set physical keyboard.[9] It takes design cues from both its predecessor, the BlackBerry Tour 9630, as well as its GSM variant, the BlackBerry Bold 9700.[10]
- Thinnest BlackBerry ever[citation needed]
- Glass Fibre Cover for battery compartment
- NFC technology
The Bold 9900 was launched in Thailand in the DTAC 3G Expo on September 3-4th 2011. Soon after, many users are complaining that the phone was not 100% reliable for daily use as it often froze during the use of BBM (BlackBerry Messenger). The browser is also one of the main problem as the touch is not as smooth as BlackBerry advertised. Both issues were promptly resolved through the over-the-air software releases of BBM 6.0 and BlackBerry OS 7.1, respectively. The Bold 9930 operates on both GSM and CDMA networks whereas the Bold 9900 can only function on the GSM network
BlackBerry Bold 9790 [edit]
Introduced on November 15, 2011,[11] the BlackBerry Bold 9790 follows the ergonomic of its predecessor, the Bold 9780, with an upgraded 1 GHz processor. The camera does auto focus (as compared to fixed focus of its predecessors), but can only produce VGA resolution videos.
